According to the St. Petersburg police, in Tampa, Florida, a man murdered his daughter, who was only 5 years old, by throwing her off a bridge early Thursday morning.
The man, John Nicholas Jonchuck Jr., 25, was driving extremely fast when he sped past an officer very late at night, around midnight. The officer says that Jonchuck Jr. was going around 100 MPH, and appeared to be heading towards Skyway Bridge.
The officer attempted to stop the driver by following him and once he had caught up to Jonchuck Jr., the officer found him standing near the top of Dick Misener Bridge over Tampa Bay, said Chief Anthony Holloway of the St. Petersberg Police Department. As Jonchuck Jr. started walking towards the officer, the officer drew his weapon on him; however, it is unclear if this is what caused Jonchuck Jr. to kill his daughter.
The father walked calmly to open a passenger door, grabbed his daughter, Phoebe, and threw her over the bridge’s railing according to Chief Holloway and the St. Petersberg Police Department.
As the officer began to search for the girl, Jonchuck Jr. drove off only to be stopped by authorities and taken into custody in the Manatee County about half an hour later. He was arrested for charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on a law enforcement officer, among another charge og aggravated fleeing and eluding.
In a news conference, the Chief of the Police Department stated, “You just throw this baby away like it’s nothing.” Holloway also stated that Phoebe Jonchuck’s body was found in the water about an hour later and was taken to a hospital, but passed away unfortunately. Jonchuck Jr. had been living with his parents and had custody of the young girl, as Chief Holloway stated.
