The Grand Canyon

By Luz Zamudio and Nishat Khan

Leaving the state for a break is hard. You have so much to plan: hotels, transportation, what to do, and more. Living in Arizona, we have the opportunity to be close to one of the natural wonders of the world: the Grand Canyon. It’s a few hours away, and you don’t necessarily have to stay at a hotel, because it’s possible to drive early in the morning and come back that same evening. It saves a ton of time and money. So, here are some things you can do at the Grand Canyon:

Grand Canyon Railway Hotel

The first thing you can’t miss is taking the train from the railway hotel in Williams, Arizona. On the train, which leaves at 9:30 a.m. and features a cowboy show right before departing, there are various performers and hosts aboard awaiting your arrival. This is a great way to save money on gas since it features six classes of service and the wild western experience of traveling by locomotive.

Grand Canyon Rim Trail

Once at the Grand Canyon, there are so many things to do, but the main highlight of everyone’s visit is the view. You can get an exceptional view from the Grand Canyon Rim Trail. The trail is quite long (12 miles) but is a flat, paved path giving you a beautiful view of the canyon. The trail has multiple overlooks which provide unobstructed views. It is pet and family friendly as well, so you don’t need to leave your pets at home.

Grand Canyon Water Rafting

Another favorite for tourists is white water rafting, which can seem pretty scary at first, but once you experience it, you’ll realize just how thrilling it is. Not only does it test your courage, but it also gives you a view of the Grand Canyon from below. The tours through the river can last from 1-18 days, giving you an inside look at this natural beauty. The best part is, you don’t have to be an adult to experience it! Ages 8 and up are allowed to ride.

Grand Canyon Skywalk

Finally, a must-see attraction at the Grand Canyon is the Skywalk. It is a huge, horseshoe shaped ledge on the edge of the canyon, overlooking the west area. It is 4,000 feet in the air, and considering it’s transparent, you won’t be missing out on any of the view! You can see straight down to the bottom, or miles off into the amazing depths of the canyon.

It’s a nice place to get away for the week or even the weekend, and with so many things to do, you’ll leave content with such an amazing experience.
