“That’s always seemed ridiculous to me, that people want to be around someone because they’re pretty. It’s like picking your breakfast cereal based on color instead of taste.” –John Green
Since the Back To School Bash is this Friday I’ve complied a small guide in order to make things a little bit easier for you while deciding on your outfit, hair, makeup and accessories!
Outfit: While dressing for a casual event anything goes. Whether it’s a cute floral dress or a beautiful gown, just remember to wear your outfit with confidence (like I mentioned in my last article)! Personally I would go for a cute and casual dress or a skirt and a top if you’re not yet ready to conquer the world with a dress. If you’re opting for the more casual look out of the two, I would go for a cute skater skirt in a bright color, a monotone tucked-in v-neck and a statement necklace which describes your personality. If you’re going for a dress and you’re stuck on which store to go to I would definitely recommend Forever 21 because they have some great casual dresses with low prices.
Say you went shopping for that perfect dress and you actually found it or at least something close to it and you can’t wait to try it on again at home, but you’re not as impressed with it as you were with it when you first bought it. Customize it! Making it your own is one of the best things you can do with any outfit. Feel comfortable in what you’re wearing because after all you are most likely going to be tearing up the dance floor. Every dress you buy should pass the Lauren Conrad 3-step checklist. 1. Is it comfortable? 2. Is it fun? 3. Is it flattering?
Makeup: I’m definitely not saying you have to wear makeup since I know that some people aren’t too keen on wearing it because it masks your natural beauty, but I just want to say that I think makeup does the exact opposite. It enhances it. It lets you play around with who you truly want to be as a person and lets you express yourself in a whole new way. So, it doesn’t cover you up, it opens you up to the world.
Since this dance seems to be on the casual side I would go for a more subtle look, but you’re always welcome to experiment or do whatever you’re comfortable with. Try out a new lip color (try out a light pink if you’re playing with a monotone palette or a dark red if you’re feeling bold) or a smoky eye (lighter on the lid and darker on the crease, or darker on the lid and lighter on the crease.) If you are going to be trying out a smoky eye I would recommend working with a softer palette while choosing your outfit in order to truly enhance your eyes. A dark eye looks best with a nude lip and a bright lip looks best with a light eye. Just remember that it’s about how you wear it. Not what you wear.
Hair: I feel like this is another component of your look to just experiment with. If your hair is naturally curly and you usually wear it down, try straightening it or trying a new braid or an up-do (a ballerina bun, for example, if you are going for a preppy look.)
Accessories: Many people don’t believe that accessories are necessary or even wasting your time on, but I believe that one small piece can change the look of your whole outfit. You don’t have to splurge on a beautifully handcrafted statement necklace, but that doesn’t mean you cant add some nail polish to your hands for a fun pop of color or some stackable bracelets to pull your look together.
I hope you have a great time at the dance and don’t forget to send us pictures of your outfits at email@example.com or share your pictures on Instagram with the hashtag “#pickmebsi” because I would love to be a part of your memories(:
I’m going to be totally honest here and say that typing away at 3 A.M. in the morning surrounded by a huddle of blankets as a writer for the school newspaper seemed like a big step for me and I was pretty terrified. But hearing all of your sweet compliments and helpful ways to improve, I was just astonished and mind blown. I just wanted to thank each and every one of you<3 Till next week, XOXO Adithy.
