This year has been a great year for music, with new hits coming out every other week. But among the mix of pop tunes, raps, and country songs, we have chosen 10 songs that stand out from the rest. So without further ado, here are our picks:
#10 Kicking off our list is “Dark Horse”, by Katy Perry. This catchy song hit the radio hard, going viral in a short amount of time. Mysterious and somewhat eerie, this song is certainly a step away from Katy Perry’s normal style of music.
#9 is “Summer”, by Calvin Harris. Released soon after a severe winter, this light and happy song reminded people of better times.
#8. Next on the list is Demi Lovato’s “Really Don’t Care” Although it’s certainly not the first breakup song, it’s a catchy pop tune to dance to. The lyrics say that she “really doesn’t care” what her ex-lover does.
#7 Coming in at number seven is “Birthday” By Katy Parry. A catchy pop tune with a humorous video filled with pranks.
#6 Stay with Me by Sam Smith is our number six. A heartbreaking tune coupled with emotional background makes this a fantastic song.
#5 One Republic’s “Counting Stars” is one of the most popular songs of this year. This song will get stuck in your head, making you tap your feet and hum it at random times.
#4 is one of the most prevalent songs of this year thus far. “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea skyrocketed up the charts and worked its way into every corner of the internet, spawning countless parodies and spinoffs.
#3. Next up is the song that you either tell everyone you love, or pretend to hate but secretly be obsessed with. “Happy” by Pharrell Williams is arguably the catchiest song of the year, with a fun music video to match the upbeat tune.
#2 Our runner up is “Problem” by Ariana Grande. This “Get up and Dance” song established her as a popular artist, and gave Iggy Azalea a start in the music career
#1 And our number one song of 2014 is…….(*drumroll*)……”Rude” by Magic!! This song can be heard being sung or hummed wherever you go; funny lyrics combined with spectacular music make this song our winner.
